Summer Community Meetup in Querétaro!
Dear Pearl community,
You may already be aware that our Summer Meetup is fast approaching, and we are eagerly anticipating it! This special event aims to bring together students and families from The Pearl High School for a memorable experience in Querétaro, Mexico. Scheduled from August 2nd to 5th, 2024, this trip promises a unique blend of cultural immersion, educational activities, and community bonding.
Day 1: Arrival and Welcome
Our adventure begins with a warm welcome as students and families arrive in Querétaro. We will celebrate our first night together at Tikua, a famous South-East Mexican cuisine in the historic center of Queretaro. This first day is dedicated to settling in and getting to know each other, setting the stage for this memorable trip
Day 2: Otomi Tribe Visit & Exploring Centro
On Saturday, August 3rd, we embark on an exciting journey to Amealco to visit the Otomi Tribe. Departing from Querétaro in the morning, we will arrive in Amealco to participate in a fascinating workshop that delves into the rich cultural heritage of the Otomi people.
In the afternoon, we will explore the historic Centro district, including a visit to the Museo MACO. The evening promises even more excitement as we attend the Querétaro Experimental Festival, a spectacular event featuring street theater, traditional music from Veracruz, and dance performances.
Day 3: Excursion Day
Sunday, August 4th, is dedicated to exploring the beautiful surroundings of Querétaro. We will start the day with a trip to Tequisquiapan, a charming town known for its vibrant markets and scenic beauty. After a morning of exploration, we will head to Peña de Bernal, one of the largest monoliths in the world. Here, we will enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon of discovery, taking in the sights of Bernal.
Day 4: Cultural Experience Day
Our final day, Monday, August 5th, offers a culinary adventure with a Mexican Cooking Workshop led by the talented Chef Elizabeth Martínez Rivas. We will begin with a guided tour of Mercado de la Cruz, where we will explore the market and learn about the ingredients essential to Mexican cuisine. Following the market tour, we will have an immersive cooking session. Under Chef Elizabeth’s guidance, we will prepare and enjoy a delicious lunch, gaining hands-on experience with traditional Mexican cooking techniques.
Chef Elizabeth Martínez Rivas, a native of Mexico City, holds a degree in Gastronomy from the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana. With extensive experience in Mexico, New York, and Argentina, and a passion for the relationship between culture, history, and cuisine, Elizabeth has been an esteemed chef instructor in Querétaro for over a decade.
